You’re invited to join our 20-home 20th Anniversary Build in Peru
The Fuller Center for Housing’s 20th anniversary is upon us, and we’ll be celebrating throughout the year, and we’re celebrating in the way that makes us the most happy — by building simple, decent homes in partnership with families in need.
The biggest build of this celebratory year will be November 1-9, 2025, in La Florida — long a favorite destination of our Global Builders volunteers. Many of these volunteers saw The Fuller Center’s first homes go up in La Florida and have seen tremendous progress through the years as repeat volunteers. It also was the site of the 2012 Millard Fuller Legacy Build.
Fuller Center President David Snell is not surprised that La Florida has become a popular site to volunteer because he sees it as an “oasis” of hope.
“When I first visited our work site in Peru, I was struck by its otherworldly character with a vast brown desert as far as you could see,” he said. “It called to mind the back side of the moon! But in the many years we’ve been working there, the little town of La Florida has become an oasis.
“One by one we’ve been replacing shacks with lovely homes,” he continued. “Trees and gardens have been planted, and the desert is in bloom. Now we’re going to build another 20 houses there in celebration of our 20th Anniversary highlighted by a weeklong blitz during the first week in November. Those who went to our build week in 2012 will tell you that it’s worth the trip!”
