The Simple Homes Fuller Center for Housing was formed in late 2012 after The Simple Way founder and best-selling Christian author and speaker Shane Claiborne attended a symposium in Americus, Ga., marking the 70th anniversary of Koinonia Farm and the 100th anniversary of the birth of its founder, Clarence Jordan. Already an admirer of Jordan and Fuller Center founder Millard Fuller (who was mentored by Jordan), Claiborne had conversations at the symposium and realized that The Fuller Center’s hand-up model and it s Save a House/Make a Home initiative fit perfectly with the intentional Christian community he leads in the Kensington neighborhood of Philadelphia. It is an area littered with vacant homes primed to be restored into decent homes once again.
