Newspaper article dives into the motivations of Legacy Build volunteers

HILLSVILLE, Virginia — Many have wondered why so many Fuller Center for Housing volunteers would use an entire week of their free time to toil and sweat while building a home in which someone they just met will live and call their forever home.

“It is much more fun to do for somebody else than to worry about ourselves,” long-time volunteer and supporter Karen “Toolie” Warkentien told The Carroll News’ Allen Worrell as he visited the site of The Fuller Center for Housing Greater Carroll County’s fourth home build, a Millard Fuller Legacy Build project that attracted more than 20 volunteers to build a home for Katelyn Nester and her four children.

The extensive article also features quotes from other volunteers, local leader Oliver McBride and Fuller Center for Housing President David Snell.
