New Iberia

New Iberia located geographically along the south coast middle portion of the State of Louisiana in the heart of cajun country. It is rich in history with French, Spanish, African American and Native American cultures that have blended together over the years. A recent study assesses the need for affordable housing, including the housing needs of special needs groups. This includes the homeless, handicapped, disabled, the elderly, single parent families, and military veterans. There is a calculated need for 3,500 affordable housing units parish-wide.

The Fuller Center for Housing of New Iberia will be focusing on the "West End Area" of New Iberia where many homes of neglect have been torn down and left vacant lots and a shortage of homes. If you would like to learn more or become a volunteer contact Eleanor Shaw at 337-256-7218 or email at Jimishaw@bellsouth.net.
