GSW Student Government representatives enhance leadership by serving

AMERICUS, Georgia — More than 400 Georgia Southwestern State University students will be taking turns at the job site of the Big Event Build honoring the Carter family during the month of April.

The students work in teams of about 20 at a time for four-hour shifts. So far, these groups of volunteers have included athletic squads, Greek organizations and various service organizations. On Wednesday, the afternoon group included members of the Student Government Association, several of whom took a moment to put down a hammer and pick up a microphone to tell us about why they are on the job.

  • Hi, my name is Marlyn Erickson. I am here in Rome, Ga. I am currently at the Salvation Army Shelter and I need a home for my daughter and myself. I do not have family or friends out here and I’m working on a new start. If you could build me a house in 20 days I would be so grateful. Please contact me anytime. Thanks!
