What a wonderful day in Indianapolis. Legacy Build 2010 broke ground this afternoon on St. Paul Street. The dedication of our First Blessing Box home included special remarks by Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard; Jim Morris, President of Pacers Sports and Entertainment; and was headlined by Linda Fuller, after she spent the morning painting windows on the Martinez home.
The Martinez family was presented their bible and welcomed into their renovated home in front of neighbors including families which have been blessed with selection for new homes to be completed in September.
I have never been to a dedication that was not emotional. This was especially moving as members of the local Community Action Network (“WeCan”) were there to welcome them. Dressed in their signature bright green shirts, over a dozen members greeted the Martinez family with hugs and gave thanks to all the volunteers and representatives of the Fuller Center for what we have done and what we are going to do. This was my reminder that we are not only building homes, but we are building a community and changing lives. Do not be surprised if a member of “WeCan” helps you with pounding nails, brings you water, and gives you a hug of thanks.
The Fuller Center website will be providing updated information on a regular basis. Please check back often and plan on joining us in September. I understand the volunteer spots are filling up so act quickly.
Our theme is “2010: 20 Blessing Box Homes, 10 New Homes,” so if you cannot join us in Indianapolis please consider a gift of $20.10, $201.00 or $2010.00 to assist with the build.
As our Spiritual Director, Craig Ulney, says, “The wave is coming, ride it with us”.
And remember, the Best is yet to come.
From Indianapolis – God Bless
