Global Builders coordinator shares impressions after first visit to Peru

Fuller Center Global Builders Coordinator Jessica Kjerstad joined a team Brad Hallock led to Peru last week, her first visit to the country. She came away quite impressed with the work in La Florida and the people of the area. She also came away with many great photos, some of which we are sharing today.

Meanwhile, here is what Jessica has to report about her visit:

“As the Global Builders coordinator, I’ve been able to see all the pictures and hear all the stories from past trips, but none of it could ever compare to seeing the site for myself. This was my first trip with the Fuller Center for Housing and to Peru. It was also my first time doing many different construction tasks that I was patiently taught to perform.

“Hearing the dream and vision for the community was inspirational. Working with the families and hearing what they wanted to do with their new homes and neighborhood pushed me to work harder and better to make it a reality faster. I loved the excitement and tears that were shared when we would work together, and while there was a language barrier at times, the connection of excitement we had spoke louder and clearer.

“While we were there, we completed a foundation, laid brick, and made preparations for what was coming next, such as rebar. It was hard work, and some days were harder than others, but none of us felt any less motivated. I can’t wait for when I get to travel again in the future and visit my new friends with their kids in their completed homes.

“Seeing this community completed will be an indescribable feeling of joy for me.”
