Connecticut couple displaced by flood has hope again after year of living in camper

NAUGATUCK, Connecticut — Jim and Mary Grant did not have flood insurance for their home because it was outside a designated “flood zone,” but Mother Nature didn’t care about those lines when she flooded their home a year ago. Neighbors had to rescue the couple, who are in their 70s and have a limited income from Social Security, with a small boat.

They have stayed in a camper on their property ever since and were abandoned by a contractor who did not finish repairs after more than five months before disappearing. Fortunately, The Fuller Center for Housing of Greater New York City has stepped in and is helping the couple get closer to moving back into the home they’ve loved for 36 years.
