Black Mountain Presbyterian gives $400,000 for Disaster ReBuilders’ NC recovery efforts
For two decades, the Fuller Center Disaster ReBuilders have earned a reputation of perseverance and trust in the wake of natural disasters such as hurricanes, floods and tornadoes.
That trustworthiness has been especially appreciated in Western North Carolina communities devastated by floods and mudslides in the wake of Hurricane Helene — communities that often have felt overlooked or not prioritized by relief efforts.
So, when the Disaster ReBuilders set up a base of operations right after Helene, they faced a public that was in shock and skeptical of strangers. The Disaster ReBuilders established trust the way they have done in multiple other disaster areas — by building and repairing homes in partnership with devastated homeowners.
The hundreds of Disaster ReBuilders coming into the area extending a hand-UP have won over the communities and local faith partners. With tremendous support and eager volunteers, the Disaster ReBuilders now have three different bases of operations in the area.
One church has expressed its appreciation in multiple ways, including by feeding volunteers and others in the area. Now, Black Mountain Presbyterian Church has delivered a $400,000 grant to the Disaster ReBuilders with a very simple message — “Thank you, and keep up the great work!”
