Alan Park Memorial Build in Kentucky honors dedicated Disaster ReBuilders volunteer
DAWSON SPRINGS, Kentucky — Ever since the early days of the Fuller Center Disaster ReBuilders after Hurricane Katrina ravaged the Gulf Coast, Alan Park has been a reliable volunteer year after year, helping dozens of families rebuild not just their homes but also their lives.
In addition to bringing construction skills and a passion for service to the job sites, Park brought something perhaps even more valuable to the Disaster ReBuilders’ mission — an enthusiasm that was not only genuine but also contagious. Though Alan passed away in late 2024, he will never be forgotten by the families he served nor the volunteers he worked alongside.
The Fuller Center Disaster ReBuilders are now planning to honor Alan’s memory in the way he would appreciate — by bringing volunteers together to build a home for a family whose lives were upended by disaster. The Alan Park Memorial Build will be held April 28-May 2, 2025, in Dawson Springs, Kentucky.
Alan’s presence was felt in every project he touched,” Disaster ReBuilders President Bart Tucker said. “He led by example — his enthusiasm and passion was contagious. He showed us the power of giving and the importance of community. He exemplified the Christian traits of compassion, generosity, selflessness, and humbleness.”
The homeowner partner for the Alan Park Memorial Build will be the Plunkettes — a family of four, including two teenage boys, who lost their home to a tornado on Memorial Day weekend last year. The house will be built on the outskirts of Dawson Springs, Kentucky, a small town where the Disaster ReBuilders have been working for more than three years since another tornado devastated the community.
Volunteers will be housed at the former Earlington Elementary School. Registration is the usual $125 for Kentucky build weeks, and you can register at this link. Note: Be sure to put “Alan Park” when asked for “team leader” on the registration form.
